Halloween Time. Pumpkins Beware!

Halloween Time. Pumpkins Beware! by Corey Osmond from our Fort Knox Management Team.

With only just over a week to go until Halloween, we here at Fort Knox are all heading out to our storage units to grab last years Halloween gear, in preparation for a ghoul-tastic October 31!

What started as a Pagan ritual centuries ago, under the moniker of All Hallows’ Eve, has now gone big time, with the popularity of the night rivaling some of the more traditional holiday celebrations. Ghastly kitchen creations are becoming more and more popular each year too, with cemetery themed cakes, blood red drinks and crazy Halloween inspired cupcakes, just a few examples.

Braaaaains, braaaaains… Taste like…cupcake? Zombie confused.

It is thought to have originated with the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, when people would light bonfires and wear costumes to ward off roaming ghosts. It was believed that the huge fires attracted insects to the area, which then attracted bats –  a couple of the common nasties regularly associated with Halloween.

Trick or Treating, one of the main aspects of Halloween and great fun for kids of all ages, is popular in the United States, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Canada, Australia and due to increased American cultural influence in recent years, trick-or-treating has started in parts of Europe. The most significant growth is in the United Kingdom, where the (fun)police have threatened in some areas to prosecute parents who allow their children to carry out the “trick” element.
