So, what can’t I store in storage?
We often get people asking questions about what they can and what they can’t store in their self storage unit.
Most of the time things are pretty self-explanatory or common sense, but other times, things are a bit less straightforward or may not come as a natural response.
We have a page on our site dedicated to ‘What Not To Store’ on our Fort Knox Self Storage main website. But just in case you ended up at out blog first instead of our website, here is a bit of a rundown of bad stuff for storage.
The first is obviously any goods that are considered ‘Dangerous’. This is mainly items that are considered dangerous in a general sense. Check with our on site ‘Storage Experts’ if you have any doubts, but as a rule you cannot store flammable, hazardous, combustible, or any materials that are toxic such as petrol, toxic or biological waste, acid, compressed gasses, corrosives, cleaners, asbestos, fireworks, explosives, fertilizers, paint, weapons or ammunition. Some of our competitors offer dedicated gun storage. Unfortunately at this point in time we do not.
Perishable food, animal products, plants and animals (alive or dead) are another range of items that are unable to be stored. Although canned food is able to be stored, any additional perishable food like cereals, meats or other produce are not allowed. These can rot or attract rodents and/or various other pests. And let’s not get started on the smell… And likewise with plants and pets – self-storage is not the place for your pooch or you petunias.
Last but not least, anything stolen or illegal is also a definite ‘no-no’ for storage. Stolen items or goods that are illegal cannot be stored at your Fort Knox self-storage unit. At Fort Knox we strive to ensure the security and protection of your valuables – but please keep it legal.
