Storage Tips Fit for a Queen

Long weekends present the perfect opportunity to get down to the nitty gritty and really make some headway into sorting out and clearing out some of that household clutter.

There’s no better feeling than sorting through some mess that has been sitting there, almost taunting you, for what seems like forever! With the upcoming Queen’s Birthday Long Weekend, there’s no better time to get organised and reclaim that room or section of the house that has come under attack from unwanted bits and pieces.

Need a few storage tips and hints to get you fired up for the clean out? Here are some that should help you get through the worst of it.

Storage tip number 1. Baby Steps. You don’t have to try and do everything at once. Set yourself a goal, be it to clear a small area or room of the house or to finally go through the section of the wardrobe that hasn’t been looked in in years. You don’t need to do the whole house.

Storage tip number 2. Should I Stay or Should I Go? There are going to be some things that you just can’t throw away, things that are on the border and those that are destined for the trash. Be firm but fair. Some people have a year rule – if you haven’t used it or really thought of it in the last year, then perhaps you don’t really need it and it can be thrown out. Other items that you do need to keep, but may not necessarily need or want around the house, are perfect for self storage.

Storage tip number 3. Be Kind, Unwind. As good as getting through the clutter and freeing up some space in your home is, don’t overdo it. Have breaks and make sure that you don’t spend the entire weekend fussing over getting everything done. It may be a long weekend with an extra day for you for you to extra things, but you still need time for yourself.
